For those occasions when I want to feel extra special, I gravitate towards a smocked dress.  There’s something that is effortlessly chic about them, and they have that boho vibe that I just love.  So, when I picked out this Merokeety dress from Amazon for our trip to Sonoma last October, I knew that it would be perfect.  Once it arrived and I put it on, it made me feel as though I’ve struck gold.  So, what is it about this dress that I love so much? Well, I am glad you asked because today in addition to reviewing this Merokeety swiss dot dress from Amazon, I am also sharing a simple tip for how I put together our mommy & me looks that requires little to no time to create.

Size

First, let’s chat about the fit.  

I am 5’0 with a straight frame.  I carry my weight around my middle and usually in between a size S and M in dresses.  I chose the S, and the fit was spot on.  It’s insanely comfortable with the smocked bodice and it wasn’t too tight or clingy.  In fact, for my body type, the smocking and tie belt does a great job of helping add definition at the waist without highlighting my belly.  #twothumbsup 

Another plus to this Amazon Merokeety Swiss Dot dress is that I can wear it with either my favorite adhesive nippies or braless due to the textured bodice.  Can somebody say hallelujah?!

And, in terms of length, the style is intended to be midi length but because I am #funsize at just 5’0 ft, it hits below the calf on me.   

Material

Moving onto the fabric, this dress is made of 100% polyester so it’s lightweight, breezy, and flowy.  Because of that, it’s one of those dresses that will work year-round with the right layers and that is appropriate for so many occasions.  It can be dressed up for work with some heels and a blazer jacket or dressed down for running errands with cute sneakers and a denim jacket, too.  

Also, worth noting that close-up and in-person, the outer fabric is sheer and has a swiss-dot detail all around the dress.  They are fairly subtle and adds an extra element of texture.  Oh, and let’s not forget that there is a slip skirt underneath that ends below the knee that prevents this dress from being see-through.  

Color

Now it’s time to talk about the color.

While this dress comes in several other colors, I opted for the dusty blue shade.  It’s one of the best hues of blue I’ve come across and this one is so pretty.  In my opinion, it would be perfect for Easter, graduation ceremonies, baby/bridal showers, or other events you have on the calendar this year.  

That said, let’s get into how I create our looks!

When planning our mommy and me outfits, I usually like to work off a print.  In this case, I chose my son’s adorable train sweater as my starting point.  I love the variety of colors that it has in it, and this gave me a lot of flexibility to build our coordinating look.  From there, I simply opted to pull two of the colors from his sweater which was white and blue, and used it in different parts of our outfits to tie our look together.  For instance, I pulled out the blue from the train print and used it in my dress.  Then, I also pulled out the white and incorporated it with my bag and shoes as well as my son’s denim.  And, voila! I love how the look came together.  We were cozy, comfortable, and stylish.
