This post is long overdue, but I wanted to share it because I am a key believer in celebrating life and the day that we were born. As a mama, my son’s birthday is one that I love to celebrate, and I am so grateful I get to create special memories with him that make him feel loved and special. Without further ado, here we go.
In March, my son turned 10 years old.
Generally, when it comes to his birthday, I put considerable thought into selecting a theme, planning, and decorating for it. But this year, I wanted to do something different. Instead of throwing him a party, I wanted to give him something that he will always remember. So, later this year, we will be traveling to the East Coast for his birthday surprise. #staytuned But, even though my son wasn’t going to have a party, I couldn’t let his special day pass by without celebrating it. After all, it’s his birthday and he deserved a special treat!
That said, every year, I get him a birthday cake and this year was no different. The only trouble was picking one was not so easy. That’s because almost all the parties I’ve held for him had been train themed. While there are endless variations of a standard train cake, I wanted something unique and different. So, finally, after a few weeks of searching, I came across this adorable ice cream train cake roll from Baskin-Robbins. I knew right then and there that it was the perfect one for my little train lover.
In today’s post, I am sharing a quick review of the Baskin-Robbins Birthday Train Ice Cream Cake Roll and recap of how we celebrated on the blog for the memories!
Let’s jump in!
First thing first, to say this cake is adorable would be an understatement. From the boiler to the wheels – this ice cream cake is a masterpiece! Not only is it playful, fun, and screams celebration, but it also tastes just as scrumptious as it looks! Though, I am going to be honest, I didn’t want to cut it. That saying too cute to eat definitely applied here. #sothehubbydidit
As for taste, this frozen treat was absolutely delicious. With chocolate frosting, chocolate cake, and mint chocolate chip ice cream, it’s everything you want from a dessert. The combination of textures and flavors goes together so well without being too heavy or overpowering. We enjoyed every bite! #moreplease
But, besides the adorable ice cream cake, I managed to repurpose a few things from my son’s older parties while adding some new touches for a little festive decoration.
For our backdrop, the first thing I did was hang an old birthday banner that I’ve had since my son’s 3rd birthday party. Then using a small square table, I set up a little table setting and layered it with a table cover in my son’s favorite color. #thatwouldbered After that, to add some texture to the table, I incorporated a grass table runner. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s the same one I used for my son’s golf-themed birthday party two years ago. Next to complement the cake, I bought a pack of fun train honeycomb centerpieces from Amazon to mimic a railroad crossing. Lastly, with the help of our electric balloon pump, I finished the look with a jumbo 10 foil and coordinating balloons to bookend the table.
And if that isn’t enough, my family was in town, and we took advantage of them being present for such a big milestone in our lives. Best of all, they brought over hamburgers and fries to help us mark this special occasion!
How have you celebrated your child’s milestone birthday(s)?

What a cute, fun cake!!! Perfect for someone turning 10! And I think Baskin-Robbins has the best chocolate chip-mint ice cream ever! I’m sure, since the cake was made with that, that it was fabulous! 🙂

That cake is adorable! And your son is just a year older than my youngest, who turned 9 in March! We love celebrating milestone birthdays with bigger parties. When my older son turned ten, we rented a cabin on the lake with a few of his closest friends and spent the weekend at the campground instead of a traditional birthday party. My younger one hasn’t decided what he wants to do for his 10th bday in March yet.
