Golf Themed Birthday Party

Spring birthdays can be tricky to plan.  Friends are away on vacation and the weather is a bit temperamental.  One minute, it’s warm and sunny and the next cold and rainy.  Then, add Covid-19 to the mix and let’s just say, it’s just downright stressful! So, with my son approaching his third pandemic birthday, I was a little bit stressed out because I was unsure of what to do but I also knew that his heart was set on getting to see his friends.  After going round and round, eventually, we decided to invite a small group of people to celebrate the little man with a golf themed birthday party.  Today, I am so excited to finally be sharing all the photos and details with you all.

Let’s start with the theme.

Theme

My son loves to be active, so a sport-themed birthday party was the perfect idea!

Venue

Once our theme was locked in, I started thinking about whether we would have the party at our home, at a park or at a venue.  In the end, we decided to host the party at Boomers Parks* for a variety of reasons.  For starters, their facility is outdoors, which was perfect since it allowed for a low-contact celebration.  Secondly, I knew that with Boomers, I wouldn’t need to plan a lot of activities for the kids because entertainment is built in.  Lastly, from set-up to clean-up they take care of everything.  So, all we had to do is show up and celebrate.

*Side note: If you aren’t familiar with Boomers Parks, it is an entertainment center which feature activities such as bumper boats, go karts, miniature golf courses and video game arcades.  They have several locations in California and offer three different birthday party packages to choose from.  To learn more visit Boomers.com.

Invitation

Next on the list was choosing an invitation.

I am typically very traditional and send invites through the mail, but these past few years have been different.  So, to keep things simple, I went with this adorable digital download invitation from Etsy.  It was exactly what I was looking for and it fit our golf theme perfectly.  From there, I customized the details and then printed them out on white cardstock with my parents’ home printer.  Since the bulk of our guests involved children at my son’s school, I was able to give the invites out directly to the moms.

Decor

In terms of party décor, they weren’t necessary.  But I knew that I wanted to do something to make it feel special and festive for my little guy and opted to personalize our decor**.

**Side note: When planning your birthday party, it is important to note that you may bring in additional party decorations or supplies for the event.  However, Boomers does not allow certain items like banners, table covers or anything that can create a hazard.  So, make sure to check with your birthday coordinator what is allowed.

Here’s how I brought this simple party look together:

Table

I always like to have a main display table for any events that I host because in my opinion, it serves as the main focal point and adds an element of fun to a celebration.  That said, I focused my energy on decorating the kid’s table.  I thought having a grass table runner would make a great accent piece so, I purchased this one from Amazon.  Not only did it help set the scene, but it also added a nice pop of color.  Then, for tableware, I added golf-themed paper plates, blue solid-colored napkins, green solid-colored forks, and golf-themed cups with a straw to create a simple place setting.

Centerpieces

For the centerpieces, I wanted to do something that would work well with the theme and what better way to do that than incorporate candy into our décor.  So, I purchased these plastic candy containers at Hobby Lobby and while I was there, I bought two packs of blue paper shreds to fill them with.  Then, I chose these green swirl lollipops that I found on the Oriental Trading website.   Once they arrived, I stuck them right on top.  Voila, instant centerpieces!

Cake

Of course, what is a birthday party without cake?

My favorite go-to for ordering a birthday cake is at Save Mart.  Their cakes taste great and are affordable.  On top of that, I have worked with their bakery several times in the past and always loved their creations.  Let me just say, they knocked it out of the park with this cake! The design was just how I wanted it, and it came out so perfect.  I couldn’t have been happier with the result.  If you are local to us, I would highly suggest Save Mart!

Additionally, I also got some cupcakes on the side and used these coordinating golf cupcake toppers.  Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture! #bloggerfail

Party Favor

I wanted to do something small as a way of saying thank you for everyone taking the time to celebrate our little guy.  So, instead of gathering tons of little items to fill a gift bag, I decided to buy these adorable cookie bags from Amazon.  Then, filled them with a chocolate chip cookie that I picked up from Costco.  I placed one on top of each of the plate with the thank you facing up.  It’s very simple but I absolutely loved how it helped tie in everything.  Of course, if you prefer themed cookies, you can certainly go that route as well.

Activities

Once the guests all arrived, we then proceeded with some fun activities.  The kids took turns hitting golf balls, riding on the go karts and playing at the arcade.

After all the fun was had, it was time for pizza! Then as an end to the big shebang, we sang happy birthday to the little guy and ate cake.

Final Thoughts

All in all, I am happy to report that my son’s special day was nothing short of tee-rrific! I loved the golf themed birthday party idea, and I am pleased with how it all turned out! We had the best time, and most importantly, little man had so much fun.  Seeing the smile on his face made it all worth it and I was so glad that he got a chance to see some of his friends after several months of lockdown.  Needless to say, he is already planning his next birthday party!

happy birthday to your son! that looks like such a fun party, and I like how you setup the table! 🙂 We’ve done organised parties at places like this before and it’s nice to have it so hassle free sometimes! 🙂 The last few ones post-pandemic we had big parties in the park so we could invite more people and it was awesome, kids just running around playing everywhere, haha!

This is just so awesome! I used to love planning birthday parties for my kids and I always found it hard because they are December/January so if I had it at home it was a TON of work but always awesome, but sourcing out felt just as fun and way less stress. I love the table that you created! And those little thank you cookie bags are a brilliant idea, I am actually thinking of how I could do something like for my students at Easter. I am so glad your son was able to be surrounded by friends to celebrate his special day. Friendships become so much more important to them as they continue to grow up.

Birthdays are important milestone that should be celebrated. Keeping the guests to the barest minimum is the best way to go, since we are still in the pandemic. Belated Happy Birth-tee to the little man.

This is such a cute birthday party idea! We had a place like this near where I grew up where we had parties all the time. Everything has been open here in Texas for over a year now, so we haven’t taken pandemic issues into account for my boy’s parties, but if you are still concerned this is a great outdoor way to do it. Also, I love the golf theme, I was a golfer all through school.

  39. Beth | 19th Sep 22

What a fun party! I can’t think of anything better for a birthday than put put golf, and the cake is so cute!
