DIY Cardboard Chanel Boy Bag Halloween Costume

If you are like me and obsessed with handbags and all things Halloween, then this DIY cardboard Chanel Boy Bag Halloween Costume is for you! It’s a playful, spooky nod to one of my favorite luxury brands and today, I am sharing the details of how you can make your own.  #boxtume

Without further ado, let’s get started!

Materials

Large cardboard box

Duct tape

Scissors

Box cutter

Rainbow colored skull fabric

Multicolor tassel fringe lace ribbon

Pearl handbag chain strap

Pearl beads

Pipe cleaner

Directions

Step 1

To start, you will need one large sized cardboard box.  Next, measure yourself against the cardboard box to determine the length and width of the opening for where you will stand inside.

Step 2*

(*Side note: I forgot to photograph the very beginning portion of this tutorial but it’s really pretty easy).

Then, take your piece of cardboard box and draw the shape of the handbag you would like.  In my case, it was a Chanel Boy Bag, and I chose a simple one to copy that I found online.  After that, follow the same process to create a second one so that your handbag costume has a front and back side.

From there, take the front side of the cardboard handbag piece and place it up to your body to give an idea as to where to leave an opening for where your head will go through. Draw an outline.

Step 3

Once you have your general handbag shape, cut out your cardboard pieces using a box cutter.

Step 4

Next, you want to securely shut the front and back cardboard pieces using duct tape.

Step 5

Now, match up your cardboard box handbag frame with your Halloween-themed fabric. Then, trace the opening for where your head will go through onto the fabric and cut.

Step 6

At this point, you can assemble your DIY Cardboard Chanel Boy Bag Halloween Costume.  And for these next few steps, all you are going to do is to glue everything in place with a hot glue gun.

First, let us start off by entirely wrapping your cardboard box with the Halloween-themed fabric.

Next, attach the multicolor tassel fringe ribbon to the front and back edges of your DIY Cardboard Chanel Boy Bag Halloween costume.  Then, repeat the same process, but this time have the fringes facing inside.

Subsequently, move on to the plaque and CC logo.

To make this, start with a piece of red felt fabric and cut it to a small square as well as little ones that go on each side.  As for the overlapping Chanel logo, I printed a free Chanel logo design at the size that I needed.  After that, I used a pipe cleaner to trace the shape.  Once I was happy with how it looked, I added pearl beads to the pipe cleaner.  Then, I glued it down to the red felt fabric.

Lastly, add the handbag strap.

I used a premade pearl handbag strap that I found on Amazon.  To do this, drape the strap on the front of the cardboard box to determine how low you want it to hang.  Then secure with hot glue.

Voila – you are done!

What are you dressing up as this year?

That’s a cute idea! My son is also using cardboard boxes to make his costume. He is going to be a robot this year! My older son hasn’t decided what he wants to do yet.
