Everyone that knows me know that I am obsessed with handbags.  They are my favorite fashion accessory and my love affair with bags began in my late 20s.  Since then, I have slowly grown my collection of the ones I love.  From novelty ones to “it” bags, I own many different styles, and the YSL Toy Loulou Bag in sunflower is the newest addition to the family.  I purchased this bag from Poshmark last year as a gift for my birthday.  Today, in addition to reviewing my YSL Toy Loulou Bag, I thought it would also be fun to share what features or qualities a bag needs to have in order for me to consider buying it.    

So, without further ado, let’s kick things off with…

Aesthetics

Hands down, the first feature I look for when adding a handbag to my collection is how it looks.  I am often drawn to bags that are simple in design, small, and has details about it that make it stand out.  This YSL Toy Loulou Bag check off all the boxes.  From its compact yet functional design and eye-catching color, she’s truly a showstopper.  

Size

Looks aside, a bag’s size is an important key feature for me, and I like bags that are mini or small for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I am fun-size coming in at only 5’0 ft and don’t like when the bag overwhelms me.  I like my bags to be proportional to my frame.  Secondly, I don’t carry much on a day-to-day basis, and I find mini or small-sized bags to fit my lifestyle the best.  In fact, many bags that are 9” or bigger will not work for me and generally skip over them.  The YSL Toy Loulou Bag measures at 7.25” inches long, and it’s just right.  

Durability

On top of aesthetics and size, a bag must also deliver on durability, and I prefer bags that won’t show wear easily.  That said, YSL is known for the quality of their products, and the Toy Loulou Bag is no exception.  This bag is made of calfskin leather that feels incredibly soft and supple, yet thick and strong.  And, in the few months I’ve owned this bag, I can happily report that there is little to no wear that shows. 

Versatility

Last but not least, when choosing a handbag to add to my collection, the biggest decision factor for me, though is the bag’s versatility.  Since my personal style lean on basic, I want bags that instantly elevate my looks and make it look like I’ve got it all together.  To me, this YSL Toy Loulou Bag does just that.  With a quick swap of accessories or even by the way it’s carried, it goes from day to night, or work to weekend without skipping a beat.  For that reason alone, the YSL Toy Loulou Bag is an essential part of my handbag repertoire.
