Several weekends ago, my family and I decided to take a quick day trip to Walnut Creek. The little guy had just completed 1st grade and we wanted to celebrate. Since it was predicted to be in the 90s and I knew we’d be outside quite a bit, I chose lightweight outfits for the occasion. That’s where our blue and white gingham mommy and me outfit comes in. Unfortunately, the weatherman lied to us. Not only was it cold but it was also a very windy day. In fact, I had one too many Marilyn Monroe moments that would put her to shame! Regardless, we had a lot of fun doing these photos and spending a little time outside.
Anyway, let’s chat about our outfits!
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you may have noticed, this is only my second gingham outfit post. That’s because, when it comes to gingham, I’ll admit that I am not as crazy about this print as some girls are. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it is considered a preppy style print. But when I saw this dress* from Shein, I couldn’t help but be drawn to it. There is something about this dress that I found so charming. Add in ruffles and puff sleeves – I was literally swooning! I love that it’s fun and feminine yet isn’t over the top. Most of all, I love it because it made matching with my little one easy peasy!
(*A side note, some of the pieces we are wearing are old or sold out, but I linked similar ones for you in the widget below).
So, when I came across this adorable gingham button up shirt for my little guy from Amazon, I didn’t hesitate to pick it up. It’s too cute for words. Not to mention, it’s comfortable enough for him to be able to play in it all day long. Honestly, the hardest part was picking a color! Matter of fact, I love it so much that I am thinking of grabbing the green one also.
As for the rest of our outfit, I kept it simple. You’ve already seen these white sneakers that I am wearing before. It’s an Old Navy find, and they are the most comfortable pair I have ever owned. I just love how it gives about any outfit a fun, playful twist while keeping it laid back. Although, if you wanted to get a little more dressed up, wedges would also be perfect with this dress. With respect to my son’s look, I paired his gingham top with white shorts instead of denim for a cool, effortless vibe. And, last but not least, since our outing also coincided with the Memorial Day weekend, I added touches of red to make our outfits a little festive.
Speaking of, it’s so hard to believe that July 4th is almost here. We usually keep it pretty simple, stay home and grill. Because it wouldn’t be the fourth without hot dogs and hamburgers, am I right? It’s also the one day out of the year that the little man and I stay up late to watch the fireworks. To say he is excited is an understatement. I am usually a stickler for routine and get us to bed by 8 pm!
Do you have any fun things planned?
