Mommy & Me: Easy Fourth of July Outfit

I probably say this every month, but I really can’t believe we are already to the end of June.  It feels like we just kicked off 2022! But here we are.  That said, Fourth of July is right around the corner, and minus the unbearable heat, it’s one of our favorite holidays.  I mean, a day of family time, fireworks, and yummy food – what’s there not to love?! And let’s not forget that it’s also a fun day to dress up and rock some red, white, and blue to pay homage to our great country. So, to get you in the holiday spirit, I wanted to share a simple Mommy and Me outfit you can recreate come July 4th.  The best part, it’s a look you can rock all summer long.  I know we will!

Normally, the weather in my neck of the woods in July is already HOT.  I am talking 100+ temps! So, when it comes to dressing for the holiday, it’s all about ease and comfort.  In my opinion, you can never go wrong with an easy basic outfit and there’s really nothing more basic than a t-shirt and shorts.  It’s a fail-safe summer combination that always looks good.  On top of that, these are pieces you probably already have in your closet.

Now, let’s chat about our look!

You all know I am a sucker for stripes! So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a striped shirt is one of those items that is a staple in our wardrobe. It is a classic and the print literally pairs well with everything. So, for this outfit, we shopped our closets! Our t-shirts are an oldie but goodie from Madewell and Old Navy, respectively.

Next, we paired our tees with our trusty denim shorts.  Both my little guy and I only own one pair of denim shorts. Mine are from AE and almost six years old! I love that they are high waisted, soft, and stretchy.

Then, to keep it a little more casual, we opted for white sneakers.  But you could easily swap for a sandal! Additionally, because I am a handbag lover, I never leave home without one.  You have seen my Kendall and Kylie Sloane backpack make an appearance on the blog several times before. Well, I couldn’t resist adding it to the mix for an extra dose of fun and color!

Of course, if you aren’t a shorts girl, you could also recreate this look with overalls or a denim skirt.  And if you need a dressier option, the little guy and I wore this matching gingham print outfit for a fun day out that would also be perfect for the 4th!

Speaking of what are your plans for the upcoming holiday weekend?

On my end, we usually keep it low-key, and this year is no different.  We are going to spend our holiday weekend at my parent’s place bingeing on all the yummy treats and just hanging out.  Needless to say, a nap or two may be in the cards as well!

    Hi Maureen!
You both look so cool and stylish! I love that you are wearing the same outfit down to the white sneakers! My niece used to love to wear dresses with me, but she has outgrown that and prefers hoodies. The backpack is a fun addition for color! I dress casually for the 4th , we went to my brothers house and used the pool and had a cookout, so it was denim shorts and a cute top.
Have a Happy 4th of July! ( hard to beleive I know)

I love the matching outfit and how simple it is. Even better when you can shop your closet and don’t have to buy something new. My boys often have matching shirts for the holidays, but I’ve never done a Mommy and Me match with them.

  36. Kellyann Rohr | 27th Jun 22

You two are honestly just too cute! I agree, 4th of July is a great holiday. Honestly, any holiday that is centered around celebrating without gifts is a win in my book. I love gifts but it’s nice to put the focus where it belongs. Time together creating memories!
