Mommy & Me Outfit: Halloween 2020

Happy Wednesday, friends!

I hope you are having a great week so far.

This week has been flying by for me.  Besides the normal routine, I have been bogged down with my son’s remote learning.  Things have picked up pace and I am ready for a break from it! It’s seriously a full-time job and then some.  To say I am excited Friday is near is truly an understatement.  On another note,  Monday’s blog post did not go up, so here it is today!

I am so happy that we’re officially into October! I love everything this season holds. There’s simply so much to look forward to. The changing of the leaves, the fun fall activities, all the treats and Halloween!

Speaking of Halloween, it’s hard to believe that it is just around the corner.  But the big question is, do you know what you are wearing?

To be honest, I have never been a big fan of this spooky holiday.  Growing up, it just wasn’t something that we did and as an adult, I admit that I didn’t understand all the hype.  After all, as someone who gets easily frightened, being alone in the dark, watching scary movies, visiting haunted houses so that I can’t sleep for days or seeing blood (even if it’s fake) are not my idea of fun.  So, it never occurred to me that I might be missing out.

Then I became a mama.

Funny photo of mom and son running with Halloween outfit

Hands down, one of the best things about having a kid is reliving and enjoying holidays with them.  The look of happiness in my son’s face when he sees all the decorations, costumes and treats is something I cannot put into words.  It’s so fun seeing the excitement through his eyes. There’s simply nothing quite like it.  Now every October, it is one of the things I look forward to.

So, despite quarantine this year, Halloween must go on! And while we won’t be going door to door to collect candy, I didn’t want the magic and fun of the day to be any less festive.  If you have been following along on the blog for a little while, you know that my favorite looks are the ones that I can match or coordinate with my little guy. In my opinion, there’s no better way to get in the Halloween spirit than to wear a coordinating costume. So, today, the little man and I are back with the cutest Mommy and Me look that’s perfect for Halloween!

That said, I wanted to take a minute to chat about why we chose to wear this outfit.

Mom and son in police and prisoner costumes

There’s no denying that motherhood is hard, busy and chaotic.  As a mama, my days are busy, and my hands always full.  I wear a lot of hats and I am always on the go.  It can be exhausting, overwhelming and downright stressful.  And, for a lack of a better word, it’s easy to feel trapped.  But motherhood is also so worthwhile.  My little guy reminds me to never forget to see the joy that happens every day.  To cherish the moments we have right now and to soak all of it in – the good, the bad and the ugly.  Even in the worst of days, he helps me realize what’s truly important in life. I am thankful for the lessons he teaches me, and I am a better person because of him.  Hence, our costumes.

Now a little bit about our looks!

In full transparency, our Halloween costumes is an oldie but goodie! It’s 3 years old. With that in mind, I got our costumes online, so I can’t link it because it is no longer available. However, I found identical ones in case you want to achieve a similar look.

My son in police officer outfit

My son’s police officer costume is from Dream Weavers Costumes. It came complete with a uniform as well as a hat, badge, belt, and handcuffs with key.  You literally just need black shoes to complete this outfit.  I added extras including a walkie talkie and whistle separately which was absolutely perfect for busy little hands!

*A side note: I was unable to find the matching pants for my son’s costume when we shot these photos. He is wearing a pair of navy pants from Carters

Me in prisoner costume for Halloween

As for my prisoner costume, it included a black and white striped pull over shirt with inmate number, matching elastic waist pants and a padded cap.  Again, you just need to add shoes to finish your look.  Fit wise, I am wearing the S.  However, it fits like a medium as it is a little loose and long on me. All in all, it is a good quality costume.  And if you wanted to spice up your look, you can add the neck and arm shackles like I did or if that’s a bit much for you, the ball and chain is a bit more subtle.

Well there you have it!

Are you dressing up for Halloween? What are you doing to get into the spirit?

This is seriously the cutest! I love your matching outfits. I did enjoy Halloween as a kid when we went trick-or-treating and what-not, but I admit that it’s not really my favorite as an adult. Not much to do, I guess! But I still love costumes nonetheless. 🙂

    Hi Maureen!
Now, this is an awesome costume on the 2 of you! I love the shackles and your son looks adorable as a little policeman! I don’t have kids but I do enjoy doing things with my niece! I am sure you are very busy as I know she is also doing online learning and parents have their hand’s full. Enjoy the Halloween Holiday, so sweet!

What a cute pairing outfit for Halloween! We don’t really do Halloween here, although the government has said trick or treating is allowed if you want to – so few people do though. My son gets to wear a costume this week to his sports class – he will just wear one from the dress up box – and the little one gets to wear a costume to kindy (again from the dress up box) but that’s all we will do 🙂

Hope that you had a good weekend! 🙂 Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!

Aww these are such adorable costumes! Good for you for having fun and dressing up–I’m sure your son loves that! I don’t usually dress up but my kids always want me to–maybe this year I will do something 🙂

You guys are so cute Maureen and you’re a fun mama. I like easy when it comes to costumes, sticking to the whole it’s all about the fun (and this mamma is crafty challenged). You succeeded in easy combined with cute – way to go! My boys want to be Mandalorians and the costumes are SO expensive. A helmet starts at $80!! Well, I saw a review on amazon by a guy who picked another version of Mandalorian and made it into his own. A perfect example of a helpful review. We went for that one and saved a chunk of change!

This is so cute! I love coordinating outfits! My daughters have coordinated the past 3 years and I really hope they continue! I think the entire family will be dressing up. My oldest read Charlotte’s Web and wants to be Wilbur. She convinced her little sister to be Charlotte and I’ll be Fern and my hubby will be Mr. Zuckerman. Hopefully you are able to have coordinating cuteness like this a few more years!

Maureen, I love this so much! You look adorable and I love the reason for these costumes. Too cute and silly. I have always been a fan of themed group/family/couples costumes. My kids enjoyed them when they were younger but now they want to do their own thing. Thanks for sharing and linking with me. Happy Halloween!

I love, love, love that you have found joy in this holiday season as a mom. Isn’t that such a beautiful way to experience life’s simple pleasures. I have to say that I really do enjoy Halloween and although I am not one to sit and watch horror movies, I do find it so sweet seeing all the little excited faces and I love that people get out and about, even though it’s always cold here for Halloween. Love this little costume combo and I say keep it up as long as he is into it. LOL. I know the holiday looks different this year but I hope it’s special
    nonetheless.
