Monthly Ramblings #5

Good morning, friends!

How are you doing? I haven’t checked in a while, and I hope you are all well.  On my end, I sort of thought life would slow down once summer hit but between daily life, extracurricular activities, and traveling, each day feels like it flies by faster than the one before. That said, it’s been a hot minute since I shared a Monthly Ramblings post and I feel like we have tons to catch up on.  So, I thought it was time for a big ole brain dump and highlight some of the random things that we’ve been up to lately. Grab your favorite drink and get ready to scroll!

New Skin Kids x Dermoplast Kids First Aid Antibacterial & Pain Relief Spray

I am always on high alert. My son has no fear; therefore, homeboy is accident prone to getting cuts and scrapes! So, last month, when New Skin Products reached out and asked if I would like to try the new Dermoplast Kids First Aid Antibacterial & Pain Relief Spray, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. I am so glad I did. Not only is it very handy but it is an easy-to-use product! All you need to do is spray your little one’s cut or scrape with the solution. That’s it. The best part, it instantly relieves pain, and it doesn’t sting so no extra tears. #momwin Overall, a must have when you little kids!

Intex Pool

It’s been sweltering in my neck of the woods with 100+ temps and this pool has been a life saver.  Not only is it very easy to set up but the quality is top notch.  This is the 2nd year we are using it and let me just say, it has done well with all the use it gets.  Or shall I say abuse?! Either way, the little guy loves it and its seriously hours and hours of fun! If you don’t have the budget for an in-ground pool but in need of relief this summer, then look no further than an Intex pool! They are a wonderful, inexpensive option.  Highly recommend!

Hubert Panoche

I am not a plant lady, but I do love cacti.  My son and I found this little guy at our local Save Mart, and we couldn’t leave without him.  We named him Hubert and last month, he turned one! #uglycry

Event Ramblings

Model Train Show

Do you have a train lover? Then you need to visit the Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society.  We took the little guy there, and it was such a treat! Though there’s not much to touch, they have amazing collection of model trains and the set up and detail was impressive.  We spent over an hour walking around checking everything out.  For their 2022 show schedule, visit WCMRS.org.

Grandma

I don’t know about you, but my grandma is the best.  She’s spunky, funny, hip and at 97, is still going strong! I talk to her every week, and I am grateful for every second that we can spend together.

Martial Arts

The little guy is going on his second month with his martial arts class.  At first, he really didn’t want to go or even put on the uniform, but we nudged him anyway.  He ended up loving it and now enjoys going!

Monterey Bay Aquarium

It had been a few years since we’ve got to travel together with my parents.  In June, we changed that and took a trip to Monterey.  We were only there for one day, but we made the most of it and had a blast making memories! We spent a lot of time exploring, eating, and laughing together.  I’ll be rounding up our trip soon if you’re interested in what we did while visiting Monterey, so check back soon!

San Diego Vacation

Last month, the hubby had to travel to San Diego for work. Since it’s not every day we get to travel, the little guy and I decided to tag along. It is about a 6-hour drive from our home, so it was a fun mini road trip for us!

Back to School

We have about 2 full weeks left of summer break until school starts and it’s just shocking how fast it went by. Little man will be in third grade, and I am all kinds of emotional! Each year I think to myself, it’ll get easier and in some ways it does. But I can’t deny that it’s also bittersweet to see my little guy becoming not so little anymore. It’s true what they say, they grow up so fast. #timeslowdown

Fashion Ramblings

In shopping related news, there’s been so many things I’ve had my eye on lately.  With a couple of events and trips on the books, I’ve been grabbing a few new pieces for our summer wardrobe.

Let’s kick things off with this adorable little handbag!

Stella McCartney Mini Shoulder Bag

When it comes to splurges, I usually go for handbags or SLGs. This mini bag is the one you saw in my last Ramblings post, and I finally took the plunge when I saw it was 30% off retail. The bag comes in a few different colors, but I went with the yellow since I felt my collection was missing this color. It’s the perfect size for all my necessities and I love that the bag feels so edgy and sophisticated at the same time. I am so excited about this addition to my closet!

Now for clothes…

Shein Color Block Jumpsuit

I know. I know what you are thinking. Not another jumpsuit! But I did warn you and said I am obsessed with adult onesies, didn’t I?!

Anyway, humor me.

I love everything about it, and I think it is crazy cute! Not only is the fit* spot on, but the pattern on this jumpsuit is even prettier in person.  What’s more, the material is lightweight and extremely breathable making it a cool option for the hot sticky days of summer.

If you are a new mama, this would be a great option for you.  It’s nursing friendly, as it features a smocked bodice.

Shein Colorful Striped Dress

I am a sucker for stripes, and I am completely smitten with this dress.  The cut is cute, the colors are stunning, and the button-down detail adds a unique detail that I just adore.  It’s a dress that can work for many different body types and occasions with a simple swap of accessories.  For size reference, I am wearing a small and the fit is very forgiving.

Shein Woven Sandals

I had been wanting to try a woven sandal, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on them.  These were the perfect option for me! Not only are they budget friendly, but they are so comfortable and goes with everything.

Fries T-shirt

I couldn’t resist buying this for the little guy.  He is obsessed with fries!

Striped Shirt

It’s no secret that both the little guy and I own a ton of striped tops so what’s one more! I love this one because the colors are different and fun.  Plus, it would be adorable with a jean jacket or a little cardigan, too, in the cooler months.

I haven’t used some pain relief sprays, I think they should be more practical than pain cream. Thanks for sharing!

Great purchases! Love them all, so we must both have great taste lol! What a great blessing it is to have your grandmother around at 97. She looks amazing & not a day over 70. Ask her what her secret is & let me know! Thanks so much for sharing with us on Crafty Creators!

I always enjoy these posts so so much. Getting to get to know you through these posts is a favorite of mine. I can’t believe the little guy is going into third grade! Yikes. Things continue to change at the end of that year and the need for independence becomes larger but they still totally want to be around and do stuff with you. Don’t worry yet!

Also, I loce that your grandma and parents made an appearance! So awesome.

What a wonderful post Maureen. Isn’t it amazing how pools really cool you off. We are always amazed at how we will get out of the pool when it’s over 100 degrees, and be chilly, haha.
You should move out here if you love cacti!! We love them too, but I’ve never tried to grow one inside. We really enjoy going to the botanical gardens and seeing all of the different varieties.
And I love your jumpsuit. I think it’s fabulous

What a fun life lately post! We ate at Bubba Gump recently when we were in Tennessee and loved it! I’m a huge Forest Gump fan though and I love seafood. My youngest two are in high school and my oldest is in college– those years really do fly by. It might not have always felt like it at the time but looking back it went fast. Wishing him a wonderful 3rd grade year!

  41. Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom | 8th Aug 22

I agree, this summer went by too fast. It went slow for me until July 4th, then it just sped by! My daughter goes back next Wednesday and my son next Friday. So crazy! We went to San Diego too and just loved it. We used to have a pool kind of similar to yours when the kids were younger and we loved it!

My boys go back to school tomorrow!! Our summer definitely went by way too fast, but they are both super excited to start school. They are going into 2nd and 4th so close in age to your son. The model train show looks fun, my grandpa used to build those all the time and when he was younger and more able he had a whole room in their house dedicated to his train setup.

  46. mireille | 8th Aug 22

I’m featuring a thrifted jumpsuit on the blog today and I have loved wearing it! My husband had to travelm to San Diego earlier this summer for work and loved it. I reallly like your pool set up. So fun!
