Santa Barbara Travel Diary Part Two

Alright friends, it’s time for part two of my Santa Barbara Travel Diary! In case you missed it, last month, I covered Part One, where I talked about what we did from day 1 through 3 during our weeklong vacation.  Now without further ado, let’s tackle days 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Day 4

The following morning, we started our day at East Beach and spent a few hours lazing in the sun.  It was the perfect way to spend one afternoon just relaxing and watching the little guy play.

After our beach shenanigans, we cleaned up and headed to a late lunch at Santo Mezcal.  I am no foodie expert by any means, but I can’t recommend this spot more. Everything on the menu looked amazing and it was so hard to decide.  There is a lot of variety and something for everyone.  I got the crab enchiladas, and it was 10/10.  So many good flavors and every bite was heavenly! My travel companions ordered the chicken enchiladas and chicken tacos.  They both gave it a thumbs up! I’d totally go back if I was in the area.  If you decide to go, I recommend their crab enchiladas.

When we got done with lunch, we took photos on our favorite wall and roamed along the Funk Zone.  There are tons of cute shops, boutiques, and restaurants.  Of course, it wasn’t before long that we stopped at SB Biergarten.  It was a great place for a glass of beer or in my case, water! We sat in their outdoor patio, and it was a good spot to people watch.

Day 5

The next day, we started with the most important meal of the day at Scarlett Begonia.  It is an adorable restaurant located in the heart of downtown.  I loved the ambiance and the entire menu looked so delicious.  The hubs got French toast with a side of egg, but the little guy and I went all out with their hamburger and green rancheros.  All our dishes were yummy! I am seriously drooling just thinking about it.

Following our breakfast, we walked a couple of blocks on State Street before taking a detour to Ralph’s to grab a few containers of water.  We then trekked back to the house to unwind from our food coma!

Later in the afternoon, we headed back to downtown Santa Barbara for their Tuesday Farmer’s Market.  There is nothing better than locally grown fresh produce. It was fun perusing the stands and ogling all the food.

After walking around the farmer’s market, we wanted something cold to drink.  We walked to Paseo Nuevo and visited 805 Boba for tea and smoothie drinks.  It took us a good 10 minutes to figure out what we wanted to get because everything sounded amazing, but after much deliberation, we settled on almond tea and strawberry smoothie.  It was a little too hot to sit inside so we found a couple of couches outside to sit on.

We weren’t ready to wander back to the house yet, so we ventured back to M.Special Brewing.  They have a great patio area and just such a lovely ambiance.  So, we sat here for some time to enjoy the rest of our beverages.

Day 6

On Wednesday, we spent the day pretty much repeating what we did on Monday – lazing out in the sun.  It was another beautiful day watching the little guy build sandcastles and dug pits.  You really can’t beat the fresh ocean and the sound of the waves.  It was so relaxing.  In fact, so much so that I ended up passing out! #napqueen

Once we had our fill of sun and sand, it was time for lunch.

Lunch was at Finney’s Crafthouse.  This is our third time here and it never disappoints.  It is an extremely casual restaurant that serves mainly pub fare but it’s the perfect place to refuel after a day at the beach.

We decided to share an appetizer, cheesesteak egg rolls.  Then we ordered the black truffle burger, mini flatbread pizza, and Mahi Mahi tacos (not pictured).  I also indulged in their buffalo cauliflower because hey, you only live once! Everything was amazing, and the portions were large.  We all gave it a thumbs up!

Following our amazing meal, we chose to lay low and traveled back to our house. We immediately changed into our comfy clothes, and it was an afternoon of relaxing in the backyard.

Day 7

There were huge dark clouds rolling into town on our last day in Santa Barbara. The weather app showed that it was going to be raining on and off throughout the day, so we didn’t really set any major plans. For that reason, we made it a pretty lazy one and it was nice just seeing where the day took us.

We started off our day with us visiting Crush Café.  It was a no-frills coffee shop, but their coffee was good.  Then, we also shared a chocolate chip scone.  I personally didn’t like it, but the hubs said it was perfection and how a scone should be.

After consuming our yummy goodies, we headed back to the house while trying to decide what to do for the rest of the day.  Ultimately, we decided to travel to Solvang for an afternoon at a winery.  We loved our visit to Rideau last time, so we decided to come back there.  They have a huge gorgeous outdoor space with incredible views of their garden and vineyard.  But they also have several places you can sit indoors if you prefer. We shut the place down and it was a great way to cap off our weeklong vacation!

As for the rain, we never saw a drop.

Final Thoughts

Our spring break to Santa Barbara was perfect! It was a good mix of visiting our favorite places and exploring some new ones. But most of all, it was so much fun to have this special time together with my little tribe to unplug, explore, and create memories. If you are looking to escape for a change of scenery, I can’t recommend SB enough. I hope you guys enjoyed the pics and the recap of our trip.

Next up, our family trip to Monterey!
