I can’t believe how fast time has flown by since I first sat down and wrote my first blog post. But if I am being honest, I don’t think I ever envisioned blogging for this long. In fact, when I first started blogging back in October 2017, the hubby and I decided to give it a try for one year. That was six years ago. Since then, I have written over 200 posts and blogging has become a part of who I am. Recently, I was asked how I got into blogging. While my original purpose still applies, it did make me start to think about blogging and why I am still doing this. So, today, in honor of my sixth-year blog anniversary, I wanted to share six reasons why I keep blogging.
One of the benefits of having a blog is skill development. Contrary to popular belief, blogging isn’t just about writing and posting photos. As a blogger, I wear many different hats. I am the writer, the photographer, the sales team, the marketing department, the editor, the tech support, and that’s just to name a few of the roles. For instance, when an email or question come in, I am the customer service rep. Or when things go wrong in my website, I am the tech support. Case in point – it is a great place to learn new and valuable skills.
Following on from the point above, when you blog, you get the dual advantage of educating yourself and others some of the things you’ve learned. While I don’t consider myself a fashion expert or an expert on much of anything, by putting my thoughts, feelings, and experiences into words, I found that I can help motivate, encourage, and inspire others. Or even just to be an outlet and help someone forget the hustle and bustle of life for a little bit. So, whether it’s writing about lessons I learned from friendships, motherhood, or everyday life, sharing my personal story help teach others.
As a result, blogging also changes who you are as a person in positive ways. For instance, I am not going to sugarcoat that I kind of dislike change. I thrive on routine and will stick to the old way of doing things for as long as I can. I have to remind myself to be more spontaneous and blogging helps me do that. Since I have to continuously create new ideas or content, it inevitably pushes me to explore beyond my comfort zone and try new things. Because of that, blogging gets me out of my shell and help me continue to evolve.
Along those lines, one of the important qualities I’ve developed since blogging is resiliency. There’s no doubt that when you blog you’ve got to put yourself out there. I can’t count how many times I’ve been told no, knocked down, and felt stuck. Honestly, it would have been easier for me just to give up. But when I look back on this journey, I am glad I didn’t. Because not only did those obstacles teach me to embrace each setback, but it made me realize that each mistake and failure were helping me to grow as an individual.
That said, blogging is a total whirlwind. It’s competitive, overwhelming, and so much work. There are good days, bad days, and there’s no way I would have made it through 6 years of blogging without enjoying it. I blog because I genuinely love it! All the posts, I share here on Little Miss Casual are made for the love of creating, writing, and documenting. It is just icing on the cake that I can share my journey and ideas with you through my little corner of the internet.
Lastly, the community.
As a blogger, it can be difficult to share my highs and lows with blogging to someone who isn’t in the industry. So, it’s nice to connect with others who are in the same boat and can relate to what I am going through. I’ve been lucky to find some really fabulous people within it and blogging has allowed me the privilege of finding a community that truly understands, encourages, and supports me. Best of all, I get to talk with people from all around the world. #priceless
So, tell me, do you blog? If so, what are your favorite things about blogging?

Omg, I love this! You are so right. Blogging is fun, and at the same time it’s kinda crazy that we take on like 5 different jobs at the same time 😀 I’ve been blogging since 2016, and I love the community aspect as well. It’s so fun to exchange thoughts and opinions and have discussions with other people <3

Happy Blogversary! I can relate to all of these points, and they’re some of the reasons I’ve had my blog so long as well. I’m coming up on 10 years in February! Love your yellow dress! Such a cheerful look!

I blog for many of the same reasons as you listed here! I’ve definitely learned so much from having a blog!

I adore blogging for money, but I can´t seem to make money with it, haha. Although I do a lot of good things for it. (Affiliate marketing, good marketing and having good content.)

I do like how in blogging we wear many hats and learn a lot of things!

While I don’t always enjoy the skills I’m forced to learn; I can’t argue that I have learned a lot of skills through blogging. I also blog to keep that record of our family life going.

I saw your blog’s title and clicked on it right away. I find all the things I gain by blogging, (which you so nicely listed and explained) the think I gain the most is reflection, introspection and thinking about what I want to post and say. It’s great to reflect on experiences and it helps you grow smarter and deeper!

Community is such a great reason! It’s part of why I do it, too.

It’s wild how after you keep up a blog for a long time, it just kind of becomes part of who you are. It’s part of your routine, no matter how often you post.
Cheers to six years, babe! Such an accomplishment!

I only blog for myself and my family but I would agree (although I never thought about it) with your points. It does keep me “fresh” on some things tech and forces me to continue to take pictures and learn about new things. Thanks for the thoughtful post!

Writing on a weekly basis helps keep you sharp for sure. So does editing guest posts for your own blog.

Great post! I have been blogging a little less than you and it started as a “I can do this” : show others how to dress on a budget and travel too! I wouldn’t say we travel on a budget anymore as we save for those trips and splurge more than we used to, but the fashion side of the blog is definitely focused on shopping one’s closet and thrifting and wearing things different ways. I blog for fun and for hopefully inspiring others!
