Tinker! Make! Engineer! with Odd Dot’s TinkerActive Workbooks

*This post was sponsored by Moms Meet on behalf of Odd Dot.  I was provided TinkerActive products in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own.

While I don’t homeschool my son, I hold the belief that education always begins at home.  As a parent, I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to help my little guy succeed.  That is why I created a routine at home, well before he started preschool, full of activities and games to help foster his love of learning while also nurturing his sense of wonder and curiosity.  Not only do these activities educate my son, it is also a nice way for me to bond with him as well.

This year my little guy will start kindergarten and I was particularly interested in finding activities and games that are geared toward a kindergarten curriculum. So, when Moms Meet reached out to me about trying the new TinkerActive Math and Science Workbooks from Odd Dot, I was completely on board. These workbooks are designed to help kids from kindergarten through 2nd grade explore concepts through play and hands-on learning.

Each of the workbook contain 128-pages that feature vivid, full color illustrations filled with interactive exercises that cover essential math or science and are broken up into 15 major sections. Within each section, the activities start off simple and slowly increase in difficulty.  It covers one topic per section and the lessons are short which is perfect for this age.  The directions are easy to follow, and the activities were presented in a way that my 5-year old can understand.

My son was able to complete most pages on his own, requiring just a little help on some pages with the directions.  He enjoyed the mazes, math exercises and drawings.

In addition, the workbook has bright colors and animation that include the citizens of Tinker Town, the MotMots, so every page is an adventure.  Even my curiosity was piqued with what the next page brings! The characters of Tinker Town also give cute visuals and encouragement to make learning feel light and fun, which is important when it comes down to a subject like math or science. But that’s not all, there are stickers and even a merit badge!

As my son complete activities, he earns stickers to track his progress and upon completion of the course, he earns a merit badge which is a collectible magnet hidden in the back cover of each workbook. We haven’t completed our courses yet, but I can’t wait to see my little guy’s reaction when I present it to him – it’ll be such a treat!

Apart from the worksheets, these workbooks include fun, simple hands-on experiments at the end of each section. It requires very few materials, and most were items we already have around the house like markers, cotton balls, cereal box, glue, etc. These experiments are also designed for parents and children to complete together and it is both of our favorite thing about the workbooks. I like that it encourages my son to try new things, to think outside the box to solve a problem and to work as a team player. It gets him excited, interested and makes him curious about the world around him. I love watching his eyes fill with wonder and I especially love the questions and discussion that transpire between us!

Overall, these are fun learning books and a hit with our family! I loved that my son was able to take a concept and delve into it using different applications. Most importantly, these workbooks have helped me as a parent stay on top of what he knows, what he is learning and what he will need more practice on. If you are looking for a way to help your child prepare for school or simply to provide additional practice in math or science outside of the classroom, I would highly recommend giving these workbooks a try.

You can purchase TinkerActive products at stores where books are sold and they are also available online at Amazon. If you purchase through Amazon, I encourage you to leave your feedback.

VERY COOL! I am glad to see children are still engaging with actual books and not just their phones or play stations and the like. What ideas and learning at the same time.

As a teacher I can tell you that every single thing you do to care for your child, will show. I don’t know if he will develop the skills, but he knows you care, and that builds a lot! 🙂

I love that you are doing the experiments with him. Sometimes families forget that the point of the learning is that you guide them in the process so that it doesn’t becoming overwhelming and frustrating for them. I love this science experiment idea, I am actually going to have to stash it away in my brain and pull it out when we do the story, Three Billy Goats Gruff, and explore what materials are best for building bridges.

It sounds like you are a wonderful and attentive mom! And so prepared! He is going to rock school once it is time for time to start. I did a lot of reading with my oldest before she started school and I really think it helped her academically. These sound like wonderful products!

These books are such a wonderful idea! Good job, Maureen. As a teacher, I’m saddened by how much time kids spend with technology these days.
