Ugly Christmas Sweater

Christmas Day is quickly approaching and with the busyness and chaos of doing last minute holiday shopping, meal prepping or cleaning around the house, the last thing you want to do is worry about what to wear.  Today, I have teamed up with Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood and 9 incredible bloggers to give you some Christmas Eve or Christmas Day outfit inspiration for next week! 

I don’t know about you, but my family get togethers are very casual.  Even during the holidays, we like to keep things low key and most of our time is spent indoors.  So, when it comes to dressing for the holidays, there’s only one thing that comes to mind – a good Christmas sweater or better known as an ugly sweater.  Personally, I am a sucker for an ugly sweater and believe everyone should own at least one in their wardrobe.  Not only is an ugly sweater a wonderful way to get you in the holiday spirit but it’s a great alternative to wearing PJs especially if your plans involve lounging! 

This Christmas sweater from Forever 21 is my all-time favorite! I have had this sweater for three years and it never disappoints.  I not only love the design of this sweater, but I was impressed at the overall quality of the knit.  It has a bit of texture and is thick enough to wear on its own.  Some of the snowflakes are made of sequins to add a little shine and sparkle to your outfit while the pom poms and the quirky Christmas tree add some fun.  And if that isn’t enough, my sweater lights up! All the makings of a seriously fabulous ugly sweater, if you ask me. 

Since the sweater is a statement in and of itself, I went with everything else a little more subdued.  I wanted the sweater to be the focal point, so I paired it with simple distressed colored jeans, a camisole for extra warmth and my favorite cold weather boots that is also three years old.  Easy, right?

Ironically, however, the sweater has cheered me up immensely! I paired it with a mixed plaid scarf in Christmas colors (from Target last year) and my fuzzy camouflage coat (also from Charlotte Russe). Tan skinny jeans (Target) and dark green sock booties (Burlington Coat Factory) finish the outfit. But it wouldn’t be Christmas without my red pom pom earrings (Rosegal) and my favorite knit hat made by my grandmother circa 1950’s. Honestly, this look is dressier than what I’d be wearing; you’d be more likely to find me in this flannel shirt, but paired with boyfriend jeans and my Bearpaw boots. I did kick it up a notch for the Holiday Series though by swapping in my black pants and red suede pumps. The look is still casual and comfortable, but the pumps and pants makes it a little more special.”

    Yes! I jumped on the ugly xmas sweater band wagon last year and got different ones for the whole family and as you said it’s perfectly easy to style for xmas day looking festive and feeling comfy.     On Christmas eve we all wear our usual novelty Christmas tees, but we dress up a bit for Christmas day 🙂 I actually have a new dress to wear, for the first time in a few years!
