Art Themed Virtual Birthday Party

Hello friends, welcome back and happy Monday!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend.

We certainly did.  The weather was beautiful, so we took advantage and went to mini golf! It was fun to be out and I am happy to report that everyone had a blast!

On another note, this post is long overdue, but better late than never, right?

Back in March, we celebrated our little guy’s birthday.  Since we were still unable to have large parties with family and friends, I went back and forth on throwing him a party.  In the end, I choose to do something special and create some fun memories.  If you follow me on IG, then you’ve already seen a couple of snaps of his party on my feed and stories.  Today, I am so excited to be sharing all the details to his 7th Art Themed Virtual Birthday Party.  I was able to find most of what we needed on Amazon, but I’ll include everything from the invitation, the decorations, activities we did for the kids in case you want to recreate for your own parties.

So, let’s dive in!

Theme

My son really loves arts and crafts.  He is always creating something or crafting a new project, so an art party seemed like the perfect way to celebrate his seventh year.

Invitation

With the theme in mind, I started party planning with the invitations.  I ended up going with this free evite on Punchbowl.  I loved the design and it set the stage for the entire party.  All you need to do is fill in the information and send them.

Decor

I have always loved birthdays.  They are a big deal to me and in my opinion, the most special day of the whole year.  So, even though no one else was coming, it was important to me that I create a beautiful day for my little guy to enjoy.  That said, there was a ton we could do with an art party theme, but since the celebration was virtual, I kept my focus on the backdrop and cake table.

Backdrop

For the backdrop, I first started by hanging up the happy birthday banner to the wall.  Then I added paint splatter stickers to spice things up and give the backdrop some dimension.  In my opinion, it really helped it feel like an art party.

Cake Table

After that, I simply set up a small snack table, draped over an art tablecloth, added this matching tableware and centerpiece.  I did have to fold and tape the table cover for it to fit a much smaller table but that was an easy fix.  Once I determined how much material I wanted, I simply taped off the excess.

In addition, I also used our homemade 7 pinata as a decoration for our cake table until it was time to bust it open! I’ll be sharing directions for making this in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.  However, if you do not have the time or don’t want to spend the time to make one, you can always purchase a pinata

Balloons

Of course, we can’t forget about balloons.  After making a balloon garland last year, I knew I wanted a balloon display.  So, I picked up a pack of clear strip, an assortment of balloons and just repeated the same type of balloon garland that I did for his at-home kindergarten graduation.  As expected, it did take some time to put together, but with the help of my little guy and electric balloon pump, we got the balloons blown up in no time.  It honestly added so much to the décor and really brought the party to life.

Food

To really have fun with the theme, my son and I whipped up a dozen cookies the day before.  We used these cookie cutters to make art-shaped ones.  Once the cookies cooled down, we added vanilla frosting and then different colored milk chocolate M&Ms for “paint colors.”

Along with the cookies, we also made wet paint brushes with rice krispies.  These were so simple to make and took no more than 5 minutes.  At the time, I didn’t have different colored chocolate melts and didn’t have time to go back to the store.  As a result, we made ours with just one color.  However, if I were to use this theme again in the future, I would definitely use different colors.  Here is the tutorial we used to make this treat.

And just in case we didn’t have enough sweet treats on hand for our celebration, my son’s party also included a cake! I had entertained the idea of baking it, but ultimately went the easy route.  I took a picture of a design we had chosen to our local Save Mart and had them make the cake for us.

Activity

When planning for this party, one of the things I had to hemmed and hawed about was the type of activity we can do.  I knew I wanted more than just to have family and friends sing the little guy happy birthday.  Eventually, I settled on a super simple craft and had the children make drawings and color together.

To make the drawing process go smoothly, we followed these instructional videos and had the kids draw in steps together.  This activity turned out so much better than I thought it would go and the children had a lot of fun! What’s more, if you don’t do treat bags, the drawings are the perfect alternative.

Afterwards, it was time for cake.

We ended the day with the pinata.  It took my son several good hits and a few good whacks from the hubby before he got his loot.  Good times!

Final Thoughts

All in all, I am happy to report that it was a huge virtual party success! I loved how everything came together and we had fun celebrating our favorite guy on his 7th birthday.  It was simple yet incredibly special.  Of course, the most important part was that the birthday boy had fun! Additionally, I am so thankful for our friends and family who helped make the day unforgettable.

What a fun party, and such a colourful theme! It looks great and it’s nice your son was still able to celebrate with family and friends, although what a shame it couldn’t be in person! We were so lucky this year both boys could have the parties they planned and wanted with their friends, while we have no cases of covid out in the community there’s always a chance an outbreak could happen and another 3 day lockdown is called! We are really lucky!

Hope you have had a lovely weekend 🙂
