Maxi Dress, Blog Birthday Party with Ada & Link Up

Today I am joining an amazing group of ladies to bring you a fun collaboration. Ada from Elegance and Mommyhood is celebrating her birthday and in honor of this special occasion, Ada had asked each of us to style either something coral or something red.
When it comes to special occasions, a maxi dress is an easy go-to. I am a big fan of maxi dresses – you might remember me in this green ruffle dress in this blog post here – but finding one that fits my height is not always easy. Because I am short (I’m 5’0), I can have a hard time with maxi dresses, my shape can get lost and the extra fabric can be a bit overwhelming.
I was initially attracted to this dress because of the color and pattern but I thought I was too short to wear it. From the hanger, it looked intimidating and I didn’t think it was something that I could pull off. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. Once I had the dress on, it was the fit that won me over. The empire waist helps to define my silhouette and it even makes me look taller! However, I still had to get the dress hemmed because the length was unfortunately, too long but based on the cost per wear of this maxi dress, it’s basically paid for itself!
This dress is 10 years old and even though I have added new ones to my collection, this one remains my favorite! I have worn this maxi dress on many occasions including my baby shower, a friend’s bridal shower and multiple brunches just to name a few because it is so comfy and easy to wear. I love that it is undeniably versatile and virtually seasonless. Not to mention it has pockets!
Given the busy nature of my dress, I kept everything simple by styling with black accessories which in my opinion, really complemented the red and yellow tones in my dress and allowed the print to do all the talking.
I am currently stocking up on vacation dresses as I prepare for our trip to Europe and I have been eyeing this ruffle tiered maxi dress from Francescas and this striped beauty by BB Dakota. Below you can find more of my favorite maxi dress from different brands at different styles and price points.

I’m petite as well so I tend to avoid maxi-midi dresses even though I love them. Some days I feel like I shouldn’t be wearing them, others I’m like…what the hell? I have the right to wear them no matter my height!

Maureen, this dress is amazing. No wonder you’ve chosen to keep it in your closet all of these years. I have a few pieces like that too, that I just can’t let go of.
