Mommy & Me: What We Wore in San Diego

Last July, my family and I spent several days in San Diego.  It was the perfect combination of family fun and relaxation.  We ate some really good food, saw some beautiful vineyards, and took in all that the city has to offer.  As usual, I’ll share everywhere we visited, where we stayed, where we ate and more soon, but for now, like I did in March with our Santa Barbara outfits, I am doing a what we wore in San Diego outfit recap.

Let’s dive in!

Travel Outfit

When traveling, the little guy and I always strive to stay comfortable.  So, for our 6+-hour drive to San Diego, we wore our oldie but goodie matching star color block sweatshirts.  Not only is it super soft and easy to throw on but these feel like PJs.  It’s also just the perfect weight and goes with everything.  They look great with joggers, or shorts, but on this trip, we paired them with jeans.  On our feet, we tossed on our black sandals to keep things simple.  Of course, I had to add my Chloe mini backpack into the mix.  It’s such a great versatile bag that not only keeps your hands free but also for carrying your necessities!

Wine Tasting

On our first day in San Diego, we had plans to visit a couple of wineries in Temecula.  If you’ve been to a winery, there is no dress code which means you can get away with wearing jeans and a cute top.  But, for me, I love the opportunity to dress up and this colorful striped dress from Shein was exactly what came to mind when deciding what to wear.  It checks all the boxes – lightweight, fun, and cheerful! What’s more, I look for any excuse to match or coordinate with my little guy and this dress made it easy.

Speaking of, for my son’s outfit, all I did was I simply brought out the blue in the dress by having him wear these blue printed shorts from Uniqlo.  Then, a simple white button-down shirt is all he needed up top.  To accessorize, I chose to keep our look light and paired it with only our white sunglasses.  As for shoes, you guessed it, we both wore our white kicks and I love how it bookends our outfit.  All in all, it’s an easy Mommy and Me outfit that is perfect for day wandering around wineries!

Day Date

I know the title of this post says, “what we wore,” but the hubby and I had an opportunity for a day date. My parents graciously offered to watch the little guy for a few hours.  Obviously, we took advantage, and this dress was just too cute not to share.

To be honest, patchwork was one of those trends I never thought I’d like.  However, I can’t deny that there’s something so fun about it and my obsession started with this jumpsuit.  Since then, anything with this print has been on my radar these days.  So, when I came across this adorable dress from Shein, I knew I had to have it.  I thought it’d be perfect for a day out with the hubby in San Diego.  I was right! The lightweight material, puff sleeves and ruffle hem detail made it so fun.  I wore it with simple white woven slides.  Then, I popped on matching sunglasses to keep things cohesive.  Lastly, I couldn’t resist adding my yellow Stella McCartney shoulder bag for an extra pop of color, and I first featured this bag in this post.

Exploring Town

A cute top and jeans is pretty typical of what we would wear when out and about, but sometimes the occasion calls for something a little extra to mix things up! That said, I am not the biggest skirt girl, but I have been hanging onto this leopard pleated skirt from F21 for years.  Three years to be exact so, I decided San Diego was the perfect place for it to make its debut.  It’s a pull-on style and I love the leopard print.  Up top, I styled it with one of my favorite graphic t-shirts and you can see it styled differently in this post.   Next, I tied the knot to give my waist a little definition.  I wore black woven sandals and again along for the ride is my Chloe mini backpack.

On my little guy, he donned on this adorable polo shirt from Shein and let me just say, the pattern on this is just way too cute! If you have a son or grandson who loves math or numbers, this shirt is totally perfect.  For bottoms, I paired them with a simple black short from The Children’s Place and I love how it beautifully coordinates with his shirt.  To complete his look, he tossed on his white shoes, and they are incredibly practical for a day on the move.  On top of that, I like how it tied in our Mommy and Me outfit together for an all-around simple, yet effortless look.

Beach Day

Nothing better than a day spent on the beach.  We went to Carlsbad Beach in San Diego to spend a day in the sun and, of course, that meant beach attire.  So, before we left on our trip, I ordered this wetsuit from Amazon for the little guy.  He easily gets cold regardless of if the sun is blazing.  This one from Ireenuo was perfect.  For the price, the quality is excellent, and the fabric is very thick.  It has held up nicely through many wears and it fits true to size.  Additionally, I also love the longer sleeves and pant length for the added sun protection.  And if that’s not enough, it’s great for post beach activities like a water balloon fight!

Before I get into my outfit, I want to mention that I forgot to get a picture. I know #badblogger That said, as for me, gone are the days when I would wear a swimsuit.  I typically don’t swim or sunbathe.  Quite the opposite.  I just chill reading a book or listening to the waves of the ocean underneath our beach umbrella, so my beach uniform usually includes a hat, a t-shirt, and denim shorts.  However, on this beach trip, I opted to wear the same color block sweatshirt I traveled with, paired it with an old capri, flip flops and called it a day.

Well, that’s a wrap on the outfits we wore in San Diego.  I hope this gave you a little bit of outfit inspiration for your next travels! I’ll be rounding up our trip soon if you’re interested in what we did while visiting SD, so check back soon!

But before I go, I wanted to mention that I have decided to take a blogging break and will not be posting in July and parts of August. I want to soak in what is left of our summer break before it’s back to work and school for us. That said, I hope you are all having a fabulous summer season and see you back sometime in August!

Fun , fun, fun! San Diego is a place I’d like to explore one day as a family. I think the fact that there is lots to see but can also be super low key would be a great mix for us with teens. Lets talk outfits!!! Love the sweaters and I am a big fan of having a light weight sweater on as I often get chilled, especially when others want AC on and I am not a fan. I love that you two still match here and there. I was also so excited to read that you and hubby got to have a day date!!! Everyone needs a little alone time and to create new memories just the two of you. Also, that leopard skirt with the t-shirt is my absolute favorite. You wore it perfectly!
