Monthly Ramblings #10

I know it’s been a while since we’ve had a good catch-up.  Life seems to be going a million miles an hour lately and I have been scrambling to find the time to write.  So, before another month flies by, I wanted to share a fun assortment of the things, big and small, that we’ve been up to over the past few months.

Let’s jump in!

September Highlights

Kids in a Box

Growing up, my parents encouraged my brother and I to volunteer and do community service.  To this day, I have never forgotten all the valuable life skills and lessons it’d taught me.  But most importantly, the way it opened my eyes and heart to those that are less fortunate.  Now that I have a child of my own, it is something that I want to involve him in.  So, at the beginning of September, we attended a fundraising event called Kids in a Box hosted by the McHenry Family Shelter House.  The children were asked to make a shelter model house and the purpose is to put themselves in the shoes of a homeless person.

Dating Anniversary

Of all the love stories in the world, ours will always be my favorite.

September 11th marked our 17-year dating anniversary.  Although we had our wedding anniversary back in July, we also celebrate the day we met because it’s just as special.

Work

I’ll share more in a longer post soon, just not quite ready yet.  So, for now, I’ll just say that one of my work goals this year was to become a paraprofessional.  When an opportunity arose at my current school in September, I wasn’t sure if I would take it.  It was only a temporary contract and hardly seem worth it.  But in the end, I decided it was better to take the chance and I am so glad I did.  It has been a great opportunity to get my foot in the door.

October Highlights

Sonoma Trip

We went to Sonoma for our fall break.  It was nice to get away and just be somewhere different.  We got to enjoy amazing fall weather, check out beautiful, new to us places and eat lots of delicious food.  As per usual, I’ll share scenes from our trip in a separate blog post.

Six Years of Blogging

Little Miss Casual turned six in October, and no one is more surprised than I am.  Because if I am being honest, I don’t think I ever envisioned blogging for this long.  But as it turns out, LMC has given me more than just a creative outlet.  And, after six years, it truly is hard to imagine my life without blogging.  So, I’ll take this sixth-year anniversary as an opportunity to virtually hug you.  Most of all, I want to thank you for showing up here and always being so supportive.

Here’s to another year of blogging, learning, and growing!

Original Post

Cherokee Indian

At my son’s school, every Halloween each classroom decides on a historical theme.  From there, each student chooses an individual they want to dress up as and write a short speech about them to present on stage.  Two years ago, he dressed up as Elvis Presley and last year, he was Abraham Lincoln.

This year, his classroom’s theme was of Native American Indians, and he dressed up as a member of the Cherokee tribe.

Pumpkin Patch

Every October, we visit a pumpkin patch. We spend time together looking at pumpkins, enjoying the festivities, and of course, taking pictures to remember the day! Honestly, when I look at this picture, I can’t believe how much my little one has grown. #holdme

Halloween

It should come as no surprise that my son and I love hamburger and fries.  So, for Halloween this year, we went with a food theme and transformed ourselves into one of our favorite meals! Stay tuned for all the details.

November Highlights

Martial Arts Purple Belt

Purple belt? Check!

The little guy received his purple belt in martial arts at the beginning of November, and it was well deserved.  #waytogo

Thanksgiving

Did you all have a great Thanksgiving? We did.

We go to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving and stay for the weekend.  It was great to get to spend that extra time together and do a whole lotta nothin’ but eat all the yummy goodies! #nomnom

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you shop any of the Black Friday sales?

And, in case you missed it, here’s the ninth post of this series!

I enjoyed catching up with all of your happenings! We spent Thanksgiving at the beach as in the past 5 years and it was very nice! The months are flying by this year and it is a little bit daunting to think that my oldest will head to college next year! I am trying to really enjoy the time we spend together and having him at home right now.
