Monthly Ramblings #9

I haven’t written a monthly ramblings post for a while and here we are almost halfway done in May! So, today, I am back sharing all my favorite highlights from the months of February, March, and April – some things I bought, some things I ate, and some things I did.  #youknowthedrill

Let’s go!

Event Ramblings

February Highlights

Limon

Limon was our first lunch outing of 2023, and it was a great way to kick off the year! The restaurant is located in Walnut Creek and it’s not only charming but has great food.  We sat in their covered outdoor patio area and the vibe is cozy.

To start we ordered their empanada sampler.  These were very tasty and the beef was our favorite.  For our main course, we ordered their Lomo Saltado – one with beef and another with chicken – which came with onions, tomatoes, french fries & jasmine rice.  It’s such a simple meal, but the flavors were on point! One thing I do want to flag is that they did not have a kid’s menu, but I am happy to report my son enjoyed what we ate here.  In fact, so much so he kept asking for more.  If that doesn’t say how good the food is, I don’t know what will.  Overall, we really enjoyed Limon and would definitely go back.

Valentine’s Day

As you know I haven’t been a huge Valentine’s Day person, but over the years I’ve come to appreciate it a bit more.  Now, I love it because it’s a way for me to show my little guy how special he is.  So, for Valentine’s Day this year, I surprised him with this fun and festive tablescape complete with one of his favorite meals! It’s safe to say that he loved it and kept giving me hugs and kisses throughout the day. I, of course, soaked up every minute of it.

Brava

I’d been to Brava once before with a friend of mine, so, I was really excited to share this place with my family.  It’s a small, cozy restaurant located in Pleasanton and the food was great! That being said, we kicked things off with their empanadas – yum! And for our main meal, the little guy and I did the hamburgers while the hubby got the bucatini bolognese.  Overall, it was great getting out as a family, and Brava was fantastic.  Everything we ate was so good and the portion sizes were very generous.

Spring Blooms

Every year, I always say I am going to take photos with our spring blooms and each time, I miss it.  The thing is these beautiful blooms don’t hang around for long.  They bloom for two to three weeks then they are gone.  Well, I am happy to report that I did not miss it this year.  #nosireee To say they were stunning would be an understatement.  Seriously, what a beautiful piece of heaven!

March Highlights

Green Belt

March was a big month for the little guy.  Not only was it his birthday month, but he also earned his green belt.  He is doing amazingly well, and it is so cute watching him!

Train Pinata

My son loves to make fun, new projects any time there’s an opportunity to do so and a super easy craft that we enjoy creating together is a pinata for his parties.  Two years ago, we made a number pinata for his Art Themed Birthday Party.  This year, we made a train pinata and I have to say, I really loved how it turned out! If you haven’t made one before, you’ve got to try them.

Bonus: it doubles as a table décor.

Train Birthday Party

Speaking of, at the end of the month, we celebrated my son’s birthday with a train themed party at a local park.  While I had so much fun planning and he had a blast celebrating his special day with a group of friends, the day got off to a bit of a rocky start.  In fact, it was one of those days where I struggled to fight off the natural reaction to cry.

You see, I have always loved planning events especially my son’s birthday parties.  I go all in and fully commit to planning every detail.  So, it was hard not to feel disappointed when things didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped.  At first, our catering order was missing.  Next, parts of cake décor broke.  Then, the “I can’t make it” text messages started to arrive.  After that, I somehow managed to misplace our keys.  At a park.  #whatthecrap But that’s not all, the wind was picking up (it was at 17 mph by midday) and our decorations didn’t stand a chance.

Nevertheless, I sucked it up and made the best of it.  I am excited to share some pictures with you once I get the chance to upload them.

April Highlights

Spring Break

For our spring break, we went on a road trip to SoCal this year.  We stayed at a house with a pool and spa.  The weather was nice, and we enjoyed lots of outdoor time.  As per usual, I’ll share scenes from our trip, along with where we stayed, good things to eat, and some fun things to do if you decided to vacation there.

Cover to Cover Club

Our library offers year-round programs designed to help kids develop a lifelong love of reading.  As a mama I love finding these fun programs for my son to participate in.  It’s a great way to keep him reading and learning.  Recently, my little guy participated in the In-N-Out Cover-to-Cover Club reading incentive program and he earned two achievement awards for a free hamburger or cheeseburger!

Mother’s Day

For Mother’s Day this year, I asked my boys to take me out to lunch at Michael David Winery in lieu of a physical gift and had the best time.  There is a ton of outdoor space, and the atmosphere is fun.  Plus, I’d been dying to try their fig and prosciutto pizza since our visit last November, so I was excited to go back! Unfortunately, it turns out this is a seasonal menu item which was a total bummer. But that just means we’ll have to come back when it is available – I am okay with that! That all being said, we split the margherita pizza to start and then we did a trip tip sandwich with potato salad for our main. And like last time, the food didn’t disappoint.

P.S. This dress is getting its own post soon!

Health Ramblings

Foot Update

You may recall that I mentioned I injured my left foot in a previous monthly ramblings post so, today, I want to give you an update.

Before we get started, I recognize there are far worse issues and bigger problems in this world.  It is never my intention to come across as negative and my blog has been a place for me to spread joy, happiness, and lightness.  I am a half full glass kind of a gal and I always try to find the silver lining in even the worst of situations.  But that doesn’t mean that I don’t have ups and downs.  To be completely honest, having a foot injury has been really testing my limits.  It adds a layer of underlying stress to everything else already going on and I have had a lot of “off” days where I really struggled to get out of my head these past several months.

That said, my running up and down our stairs brought on my foot condition.  And it’s been eight months since I had to force myself to take it easy and not do anything more than just light walking.  For now, I am focusing primarily on restorative exercises in attempt to protect my foot while it heals.  The good news is, according to both my x-rays and MRI, there are no fractures, and my ankle and foot are intact.  And apart from a little discomfort when my foot is tired from walking, it has been pain-free.  But, on the other hand, it doesn’t feel like it’s gotten any better and I am feeling stuck.  So, I decided to find another specialist and get a different set of eyes on what’s going on.  #staytuned

In the meantime, I am trying to handle it with perspective and think about the big picture.  I know this will pass and I just need to ride it out.

Shopping Ramblings

I’ve definitely shopped less than usual over the last few months, but I’ve still made some purchases here and there.  Here are some things that I’ve bought recently and love!

Cargo Jeans

My addiction to cargo jeans continues! I just added this new style to my closet, and I really couldn’t be happier with them.  They have a really nice fit, with a flattering wide leg, and a touch of stretch for comfort.  I usually wear a size XS, but I’ve put on a few pounds, so I went ahead and ordered a S.  I would say they are true to size or if in between, size up.

Cargo Jeans

Boys Red Shoes

This red pair is a new addition to my son’s shoe collection.  He has these in the yellow version, and he wore them all around Santa Barbara and Monterey last year with no complaints.  So, I knew I had to get them in red for his birthday.

Red shoes

Rainbow Stripe Straw Bag

When it comes to dressing up, there’s nothing I rely on more than a cute little bag. And this one check all the boxes! It’s big enough to hold the essentials and the colors are so fun. This one will go with everything whether it’s with jeans and a tee or a party dress. Not to mention, it comes with a removable crossbody strap as a hands-free option to keep things easy.

Bag

Boys Banana Print Shirt

I saw this shirt and went bananas! I found it very ap-peel-ing, and I couldn’t resist getting it for my little guy! It’s adorable and such a fun shirt to add to his wardrobe. Perfect for all things spring!

Now it’s your turn! What’s one random thing you are loving lately, dying to try out or looking forward to?

This post is making me hungry, Maureen, with all of these great meals, and I love your yellow dress for your Mother’s Day winery trip! Thinking good thoughts for your foot to heal quickly too – or at least get a diagnosis for what is going on.

I hope you are having a great week so far!

I think that’s the smartest thing to get another set of eyes on your foot. Heck, I believe in the power of strengthening the muscles because sometimes when we hurt something, it’s because some muscles are too weak. I wish all doctors would expect patients to go to some PT before any kind of surgery. Just my little rant, haha.

I sure hope your foot starts to improve! You and your son always look so cute in your matching outfits and I love those yellow sneaks! I have a pair of blowfish sneakers in olive and was very tempted to grab a pair in another color when I saw some at TJmaxx recently. I love seeing where you all have been visiting and I have to say your pictures of the food always are so good.

That was a great catch-up! You’ve been busy! Love that yellow dress, gorgeous!

  26. Stephanie | 15th May 23

Sounds like you’ve been busy the last few months! We also did a trip for Mother’s Day this past weekend, we went to Kalahari which is a massive indoor waterpark only a few hours from us. It’s a great way to beat the Texas heat without getting sunburned since it’s inside! I also love that your library does a year-round program as ours is only over the summer for the kids here.

  27. Joanne | 15th May 23

Oh wow! Those spring blooms are amazing! I hope you get some answers for your foot; I hurt mine nearly a year or so ago and while I am slowly getting better it is so frustrating taking it easy (which I may not really be doing!). It’s so hard when it’s a good and not a hand or an elbow.

  28. Whitney Stewart | 15th May 23

It sounds like you had a very exciting month! I love all the stuff you bought! Especially that bag, so cute! Thanks so much for sharing!

  29. Debbie | 15th May 23

Great catch-up from the last few months! The train birthday party is absolutely adorable! Love the theme! I hope Mother’s Day at the winery was amazing, too!
