A Typical School Supervision Assistant Outfit

Two weeks ago, my little bestie showed you the perfect school picture day outfit, and today I’d like to chat what a typical work attire looks like for me.  For those that may not know, I work at one of our public schools as a supervision assistant and I am outside in the playground with the children every day.  So, when it comes to getting dressed, comfort and functionality are key.  Thankfully, my dress code at work is casual and I am allowed to wear whatever I want.  But even if you are not a school supervision assistant, don’t worry, this outfit is perfect for meeting a friend for coffee, a casual day running errands, or even working from home.

That said, I tend to rely on my favorite outfit formula – leggings + graphic tee + sneakers – when I am on yard duty.  I love wearing this type of outfit because not only is it easy to put together, but I know that I’ll be comfortable all day.  In fact, I can’t think of an easier way to feel comfortable than in a graphic t-shirt and leggings when you are standing, bending, and walking around a lot.  Bonus: it’s also a great idea because it’s usually just clothes you already have.  Speaking of, I’ve shown all these pieces on the blog before.  #sorrynotsorry

Now, I don’t know about you, but a graphic tee is an absolute closet staple for me.  They literally go with everything, and I love having a few in my closet that have some personality! This Boo Boo Crew tee from Amazon is one of my absolute favorites.  I’ve had it for 3 years, and it gets worn on repeat every fall.  It’s fun, playful and the way I see it, it’s the perfect way to add visual interest to a simple outfit while taking care of the children.  Best of all, leggings and sneakers were practically made for a top like this!

While I know that they aren’t for everyone, I live in my black leggings year-round because, hey, #momlife.  But, if leggings aren’t your thing, you could always go with jeans or joggers.  Though, in my opinion, the beauty of leggings is their ability to give you ultimate freedom to move with zero restrictions.  There’s really nothing more practical for running around with kids.  It also has pockets which is very handy for storing band-aids while at work because let’s face it, kids tend to be a little wound-prone and having a stash is always a good idea!

Besides moving around constantly, I also spend a lot of time outside.  So, I usually always carry an extra layer with me.  I showed this chambray shirt years ago in a mommy and me double denim outfit, but it also makes for a great lighter, outer layer over any t-shirt.  It’s perfect for covering your arms but can be taken off easily and tied around your waist like I did in case you get warm.  But that’s not all, a chambray shirt is the ideal piece for wearing with leggings because it’s long enough top avoiding any wardrobe malfunctions.  #ikyk

Needless to say, I am on my feet for the duration of my work shift and no school supervision assistant outfit is complete without comfortable shoes. Sneakers are a great option if you’re trying to move quickly through the school playground and give your feet plenty of support.  These white sneakers from Old Navy need no introduction as I have been sharing it a ton on the blog for months now.  They seem to go with just about everything – dresses, jeans, shorts – and they are basically the only pair of shoes I wear.

On a different note, I want to give a special shout out to my little sidekick.  He is such a big helper and took these pictures for me.  #abigroundofapplause

But hey 2 days in this outfit and no one seems to even notice, so far so good. I am wearing this outfit again next week and the week after and so on. Thanks for sharing. Jamie

I wish I could wear this at the school I work for! We have to wear semi-professional clothes, even in the sweltering 105+ degree heat at recess duty, most days of the week. We can wear jeans with a college shirt on Wednesdays and jeans with a school spirit shirt on Fridays.

  25. Luna S | 28th Aug 23

That top is so cute! When working with kids in this setting I agree it is important to be comfortable while also having something appropriate on and I think you nailed it.

    HI Maureen!
Oh, boy I am bad at returning comments these days! So sorry! I used to work as a Kindergarten teacher, so I know you have to have comfortable clothes you can move in, and even more so as a person outside on yard duties. That is a cute tee, and it looks like the perfect outfit to wear to be playing with or watching the kids.
Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Your son did a great job with the pictures! I love how the graphic tee is fitted and the sneakers and chambray complete the outfit. It really creates cohesion and shoes that the outfit is worn with a purpose. Sounds like a fun job especially on days when the weather is pleasant.
